From January 1983 to January 1995 Melba L. Dunlap was county supervisor for Riverside County’s District 2. Dunlap an influential politician was the second woman elected to Riverside County’s governing board, an environmental activist who was passionate about improving the quality of life of the district she served.
Melba L. Dunlap has been accredited with helping launch the first public bus system in Riverside County’s west side, later to become RTA (Riverside Transit Agency). Throughout the 60’s and 70’s Dunlap focused her influences towards the cleanup of toxic waste dumps in what is now known as Jurupa Valley. In 2012 Dunlap was awarded the Patricia Ann Wilson Outstanding Community Service Award recognizing her good work as one of the founding members of Western Riverside Council of Governments.
A Riverside local since 1958, Dunlap’s impact is widely felt by the 2.4 million people who call Riverside County home. She is recognized by many as a leader who consistently did what was right for her district. On Monday, January 13th, 2020 Dunlap passed away at the age of 88. She will be survived by a great legacy.
