Moreno Valley, CA (DEC 18, 2014) – A generous grant of $25,000 to FSA from The Alcoa Foundation will allow seniors in San Bernardino County to take nutrition education classes at local community centers in the City of Colton, the City of Rialto, in the unincorporated area of Bloomington and at the George White Center in Fontana. The classes, entitled “Healthy Eating Over 60: Creating a Well-Balanced Diet” are facilitated by a registered dietician and provides seniors with useful tips for preparing daily nutritious meals and snacks. Family Service also provides hot meals at these locations from 11:30am – 12:30pm to anyone 60 years and older.
The funding from ALCOA also allows FSA to expand its hot meals program by another 10% in the areas mentioned. FSA currently dishes up 2,500 meals per day and over 600,000 meals per year in Riverside and San Bernardino County. The FSA “Group Meals” program is where hot, delicious and nutritionally balanced meals are provided to seniors in a group setting at community centers. The Home Delivered Meals program known as “More Than A Meal” has as one of its benefits the social contact seniors get with the drivers who stop by each day – often the only interaction a homebound senior may receive.
In California, Alcoa operates facilities in Carson, City of Industry, Fullerton, Newbury Park, Simi Valley, Sylmar, Torrance, and Visalia. Together, Alcoa and Alcoa Foundation donate millions of dollars in community investment grants in Alcoa communities worldwide.
