Highlights over the years at Family Service Association

Over the years, Family Service Association has responded to the changing dynamics of families, by expanding the scope of services to include comprehensive care for families in need.

The major accomplishments of the agency throughout the years are as follows:

1953-1985: Family Service Agency of Riverside, founded by the Junior League of Riverside, establishes a reputation for high quality and affordable counseling services, primarily for the metropolitan Riverside area. The operating budget consists of $250,000 per year with 15 full time employees, rendering 6,000 hours of counseling to over 1,000 families,

1985: The agency embarks upon an ambitious strategy to meet the growing and changing needs of families and communities by expanding the diversity and accessibility of services.

1988: With child care expanding, the operation of the Rubidoux Child Care Center is implemented.

1989: The Moreno Valley, Corona and San Jacinto Clinic Sites, and Glen Avon Senior Centers are opened.

1999: Our corporate name is changed to Family Service Association of Western Riverside County to reflect the growth of services provided. Transportation services are added.

1994: The operating budget reaches 1.7 million per year with 80 full time employees.

1994-1995: San Jacinto based services are fully developed. HUD Sec. 202 Senior Housing (54 Unit) Rubidoux facility is awarded. Family Service’s operating budget exceeds 1.8 million, encompassing expansion in clinical and transportation services, and school based services.

1995-1996: Lake Elsinore based services are established. Innovative home based services, peer support, and advocacy programs are realized. The budget exceeds 24 million with staff exceeding 135. Over 235,000 various units of service are provided, to an excess of 16,000 clients and 25,000 family members.

1996-1997: Operation of the Mead Valley Center commenced. Lake Elsinore Healthy Start services are put into effect. Kay Ceniceros Center operation is firmly established. San Jacinto Clinic and Transportation services are expanded. Construction on Senior Housing Project commenced.

1997-1998: Occupancy of Senior Housing Project is realized (54 units). Murrieta Clinical Site opens. Expansion includes Managed Care Mental Health Services. Direct contract with the State Department of Education for Child Care Services is provided. The operating budget increases to 3.4 million dollars.

1998-1999: The Murrieta Clinic Office site, Day Care Resource Center, Medi-Cal Outreach services, and the La Sierra Child Development sites are established. Volunteer hours exceed 25,590.

1999-2000: Service hours exceed 800,000; Individuals served are more than 30,000. Child Development and Senior/Community Services become largest program components.

2000-2001: Child Development Services expand into San Jacinto and Mead Valley Clinical services expand into home and school-based services. Volunteers contribute over 33,000 hours.

2001-2002: Child Care expands preschool program with the partnership of the Alvord School District. Operating budget increases to over 7 million.

2002-2003: FSA purchases and occupies the 32,000 square-foot professional building in Moreno Valley. The Hemlock Moreno Valley Child Development Center opens. Senior Nutrition Programs expand to 225,000 meals per year. The Welfare to Work Program venture with La Sierra University SIFE Program leads to the World Competition in Amsterdam victory.

2003-2004: The Alessandro Child Development Center is opened. The agency is acknowledged for entrepreneurial leadership. The budget increases to over 9 million, with 340 employees.

2004-2005: The James A. Venable Community Center in Cabazon and Mildly III Child Care Center in Moreno Valley are opened. Employees increase to more than 400 and budget reaches over $10 million.

2005-2006: The San Bernardino Senior Nutrition Services are added. The budget increases to almost $14 million

2006-2007: The Cabazon Child Development and Highgrove Community Center sites are added. The Budget increases to $16 million.

2007-2008: The Norton Younglove Community Center and Foothill sites add child care classrooms. The budget reaches $19 million. The Staff increases to more than 470. The Community Housing Development Corporation is formed.

2008-2009: San Bernardino Senior Nutrition Services continue to expand. Clinical services provide cutting edge child protective intervention and adoption services. Child Development corporation formed to deal with expanded capacities.
